The interspinous ligament, which sits between the spinous processes, forms a ventral contact with the ligamentum flavum. The ligamentum flavum runs between the laminae, just behind the spinal canal, and its anterior surface blends with the ventral aspect of the interspinous ligament. This creates a continuous posterior support that helps limit flexion and stabilize the segment. The anterior longitudinal ligament lies along the front of the vertebral bodies and does not meet the interspinous ligament ventrally, while the supraspinous ligament is on the posterior aspect at the tips of the spinous processes, not forming a ventral blending partner.
